(Muskegon, MI) – Shanda Vander Ark of Norton Shores will spend the rest of her life in prison for the starvation death of her 15-year-old son. She was sentenced yesterday to life without parole after being convicted last month. Judge Matthew Kacel said she “intentionally and systematically tortured” Timothy Ferguson.
Two siblings of Timothy spoke at her sentencing, with Millie Ferguson and Nolan Ferguson saying Vander Ark deserved the maximum penalty for killing their brother.
