(Lansing, MI) – Ice coverage on the Great Lakes is at a historical low of zero-point-three-percent on January 3. NOAA’s Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory in Ann Arbor says the previous record low for that date was zero-point-seven-percent. Lake Superior has just zero-point-nine-percent ice cover compared to its long-term average of seven-percent now, while Lake Michigan is nearly completely ice-free at zero-point-zero-one-percent.
There is no ice on Lakes Erie and Ontario.
