(Lansing, MI) – Scores for the ACT college entrance exam are higher in Michigan than the national average. While the overall average score for 2023 is down to a 30-year-low across the U.S. at 19-point-five, Michigan students scored an average of 24-point-four, out of a possible 36. The importance of the test has faded in recent years, however, with over 80 percent of the four-year colleges and universities in the country no longer requiring the ACT or SAT for admission, according to the National Center for Fair & Open Testing.
Only eight percent of students in Michigan took the ACT last year.
