(Holland, MI) — The retired James De Young coal power plant in Holland has been imploded. Boats gathered on Lake Macatawa and hundreds of people were at Kollen Park to watch it come down yesterday, including lifelong Holland resident Gary Brink, whose father worked at the plant for 17 years.

“He used to bring me in there on Sunday afternoons when he had to go in and clean the boilers out.”

The plant was build in 1939 as part of the New Deal and closed in 2017. The 17-acre property on the Lake Macatawa waterfront will be redeveloped.
