GRAND HAVEN, Michigan – (WGHN) – Harbor Transit of Grand Haven will once again provide a free park-and-ride service for those attending Coast Guard Festival activities in downtown Grand
Haven. With thousands of visitors expected to flood the Grand Haven Area during the 2023 Coast Guard Festival (July 28-August 6), Harbor Transit’s Coast Guard Festival park-and-ride is
essential to alleviating traffic congestion on main roadways during the busiest week in Grand Haven.
Harbor Transit’s free park-and-ride service will be available on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 through Friday, August 4, 2023 from 4:00pm-11:00pm from Harbor Island in Grand Haven.
Harbor Transit will also offer a free park-and-ride service on Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 9:00am until 11:30pm from seven different locations.
During the Park-and-Ride service hours, attendees can park their vehicles at the designated locations around the Tri-Cities and ride the shuttle to the heart of downtown Grand Haven (3rd
Street and Columbus Avenue). Attendees can then return to their vehicles via the shuttle by returning to the drop site in downtown Grand Haven. Harbor Transit is not collecting fares for the
park-and-ride shuttle service, and there is no cost to park at any of the designated locations.
Parking Locations for Wednesday, August 2nd – Friday, August 4th include:
– Harbor Island (look for signs near soccer fields)
Parking Locations for Saturday, August 5th Include:
– Ferry Elementary School (Grand Haven)
– Griffin Elementary School (Grand Haven)
– Trinity Reformed Church (Grand Haven)
– First Christian Reformed Church (Grand Haven)
– First Baptist Church (Spring Lake)
– All Shores Wesleyan Church (Spring Lake)
– Ferrysburg City Hall (Ferrysburg)
Riders should note that on Saturday August 5th, the shuttles will not be operating from 8:30 pm until after the fireworks show, and the last call to ride the shuttle from downtown Grand Haven
back to the parking locations is 11:30 pm.
Executive Director Scott Borg anticipates more festival goers for the 2023 Coast Guard Festival than the area has seen in recent years, and the shuttle service will be essential to preventing
traffic gridlock.
“Harbor Transit’s park-and-ride shuttle will be the easiest way for people to get to the events and activities downtown,” Borg stated. “One important thing for riders to be aware of
is that the shuttles on Saturday August 5th will not be operating from 8:30 pm until after the firework show. If you’re wanting to leave the downtown area before the fireworks begin, you’ll
want to be at the downtown drop site well before 8:30pm.”
To accommodate the special park-and-ride service, Harbor Transit will operate all other services under Limited Service on Saturday, August 5th. Eligible destinations for Limited Service include
(but are not limited to) medical appointments, prescription pick-ups, day care, work, and auto repair services. Harbor Transit will take calls until 5:00 pm on Friday, August 4th for Limited
Service requests on Saturday, August 5th. Beach Express and the Trolley will not be running on Saturday, August 5th.
