(Mackinac Island, MI) –  Michigan’s most popular cruise ship port this year is Mackinac Island, as it is expected to welcome 92 cruise ship calls from May to October. Mackinac Island Tourism officials say that number can change as some lines are still finalizing schedules.

VP of Pure Michigan Dave Lorenz is the chair of the Cruise the Great Lakes Association. Lorenz says they just had their annual meeting.

“Members from the U.S. states, from the Provinces of Quebec and Ontario were there. Also members of the various ports and the conventions Visitors Bureaus were there. I think we’re set for a really exciting next year and into the coming years for the the expansion of the cruise business in the great lakes. All means not only do we get to see those cool ships come, but a lot of dollars. An attainable way to experience the Great Lakes area.”

CEO Tim Hygh says they might end up with 100 cruise ship calls and says they didn’t have to invite anyone. Hygh says the growth is organic.
