(Lansing, MI) – Anyone who lost power in the two ice storms in Michigan in the past week should get credits on their bills from Consumers Energy and DTE Energy according to Attorney General Dana Nessel. She says the ice storm last week was one of the worst the state has experienced in years and took out power for over 700-thousand people and businesses. Nessel says utilities have “failed to adequately invest in their own infrastructure or prepare for these storm events” as they seek higher rates.
The second ice storm in a week to hit west Michigan has left several thousand in the dark. Yesterday’s hit Montcalm, Kent, and Newaygo counties hard, with around 37-percent of Consumers Energy customers in Montcalm County losing power.
Crews had been busy since Wednesday getting power restored in southern Michigan and are now working to the north. Consumers Energy says around 71-thousand of their customers in the state lost power.
