(Detroit, MI) — Governor Gretchen Whitmer says 144-million-dollars in medical debt is being forgiven for over 200-thousand Michigan residents. She was joined by Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist, Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, Undue Medical Debt CEO Allison Sesso and others to make the announcement in Detroit yesterday.
Whitmer says with federal cuts to Medicaid happening, the debt relief is key for helping Michiganders who are struggling to get their medical bills paid. Wood TV 8 reports that the state is partnering with Undue Medical Debt, which buys the debt for pennies on the dollar.
