(Honolulu, HI) – New research from the University of Hawaii at Manoa found that high school athletes diagnosed with ADHD take significantly longer to recover from concussions. For the study researchers looked at data from 935 student-athletes who had concussions between 2010 and 2018. They found that athletes with ADHD took an average of 13 days to return to class, two days longer than their non-ADHD peers. Athletes with ADHD took nearly 21 days to return to their sport, a three day difference.

The study also found that female athletes and younger students tend to have longer recovery times.
