(Lansing, MI) – Advocates and state lawmakers are calling for changes and demanding answers after the third inmate death in the past month at Huron Valley Women’s Correctional Facility. Thirty-six-year-old Ashley Hoath of Hillsdale County was the third inmate to die, and she died at Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital on June 6th. Advocate Lois Pullano says the Michigan Department of Corrections is “a very walled-off, closed system that seems to have forgotten human dignity of every single person matters.”
Republican state Representative Sarah Lightner of Springport and dozens of others have called for MDOC director Heidi Washington to resign.
