(Washington, DC) – Michigan’s U.S. Senators Gary Peters and Elissa Slotkin both voted against the bill that passed to start reopening the federal government. Peters says he voted against the bill because he can’t support “a deal that doesn’t take immediate action to prevent Michiganders’ health care costs from skyrocketing more than they already have.” He adds majority Republicans “have made it clear they won’t even lift a finder to address rising health care costs in this country.”
Peters had proposed a one-year extension of the health care tax credits to provide immediate relief while they find a solution, but says “compromise is impossible when President Trump doesn’t care about Americans getting priced out of their benefits.”
