(Grand Rapids, MI) – Frances Michalek fought for the U.S. Navy in the Spanish-American War in 1898 and was buried at St. Andrews Cemetery in Grand Rapids after he died in 1911, but without a tombstone. His descendants say he will finally have one for Veterans Day on Monday, 113 years later.

The family submitted paperwork to the Department of Veterans Affairs and were successful at receiving the headstone for his grave.
