Last night's decision by
the Grand Haven school
board will cut ten
teachers in the district
next year. Also on
Monday the decision was
made to layoff up to 8
paraprofessionals at
Spring Lake Public
schools. The reductions
in Grand Haven come in
light of a three million
dollar projected
shortfall in the
upcoming budget. The
decision by the Spring
Lake school board comes
as that district
forecasts a 700 thousand
dollar plus deficit for
the 2013-2014 school
year.
Palisades Nuclear Power
Plant near South Haven
is back up and running
once again. Entergy says
they returned the
nuclear plant in Van
Buren County to service
yesterday afternoon
after it had been
offline since May 5 due
to a "mildly
radioactive" water leak
into Lake Michigan.
Federal agents searching
for the body of former
Teamsters chief Jimmy
Hoffa believe they are
about to crack one of
America’s biggest
unsolved mysteries. A
suspicious concrete slab
was retrieved by
investigators from the
Oakland Township field
where they have been
digging for any sign of
Hoffa. Soil and
excavation experts from
Michigan State
University are now
aiding the search for
Hoffa's remains which
resumed this morning and
is expected to last
about a week.
A partial body contact
advisory has been issued
for the Westside County
Park in Allegan county.
The alert wasissued
today after samples
taken this week were
evaluated. Swimmers are
advised to limit their
exposure to those waters
at the bathing beach
until further notice.
